What is Visceral Manipulation, and could it help you?
Lately, I’ve been investing in my education and doing a lot of Continual Professional Development. My main focus has been exploring The Barral Institute Curriculum on Visceral Manipulation, and it has changed the way I’ve been treating in clinic for the better!
Visceral Manipulation has been developed by the French osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral, on the basis that an organ needs good mobility and motility to function healthily. Restrictions in the ligaments of the organs can not just affect the organ itself, but the whole musculoskeletal system due to the connections of the organs via their ligaments and the interconnectedness of the fascial system. These restrictions can contribute to pain, dysfunction or chronic health issues.
Visceral manipulation is gentle and very specific, working on the restricted structures to gently mobilise organs and encourage the body’s own healing processes. Who would have thought that manipulating the liver could help with a neck or shoulder problem! I have found I’m getting great change with patients, especially with chronic issues that just keep coming back.
So if you’re suffering from some gastrointestinal issues, or an injury that is chronic in nature and just doesn’t seem to get better no matter what you do, come book in at The Dancing Osteo in Prahran, for a fully holistic approach in tackling your issue.
